Three Days Grace // Alienation

The Canadian rockers return with their most vital album in years.

★★★★☆

"Here we fucking go" – and wow, they're not wrong. Three Days Grace storm back with Alienation, a powerful reminder of why they've been alt-rock royalty for two decades. The big news is that the band's original vocalist Adam Gontier has returned to the band after an eleven-year absence, now working alongside Matt Walst in a brand new quintet setup.

The reunion was years in the making, with the pair secretly writing together after Gontier joined them onstage in 2023. This isn't just a nostalgia trip – it's a statement of intent. As Walst explains: "It adds a dynamic to the songs… it just makes it more exciting almost for fans to hear both frontmen sing together."

Sonically, Alienation doesn't play it safe. Riffs alternate between nu-metal aggression and retro Thin Lizzy twin guitar sounds, as the band effortlessly pivots between menacing anthems like "Dominate" and powerful emotional gut-punches like "Kill Me Fast." The album starts with laughter, and you can hear in every track that the band is having a great time playing together.

The album's concept of alienation runs deeper than the music itself. In a world of digital isolation, this is a journey through modern disconnection, where loneliness has become endemic. Songs tackle anxiety, addiction, and solitude with unflinching honesty – themes that resonate powerfully with their massive fanbase.

That connection is evident in their continued success: with 17 million monthly Spotify listeners and sold-out UK dates already locked, it's clear that we still can't get enough of Three Days Grace. This is their best effort since One-X – and it feels like having Gontier back sees a band reborn and ready to dominate again.

Essential tracks: Dominate, Kill Me Fast, and Mayday
