eville // brat metal
EVILLE is redefining a genre with revolutionary female anthems in their debut EP BRaT Metal.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
We’ve had brat summer; now it’s time for brat metal. EVILLE are the group that we need right now, ready to not only smash stereotypes but headbutt and kick them to the ground, all while wearing pink. Brat Metal is a genre coined by the trio with hyperfeminist lyrics, ferocious metal instrumentals, and confidence poured upon us.
Brat Metal marks the first EP for EVILLE, and it's surprisingly confident. It’s polished yet gritty, and with a sound and image that feel like they’ve been dominating the mainstream for years. “BR4T MBL” kicks things into gear with a Y2K-inspired, fast-and-furious-style anthem that flips the script, putting women in the driver’s seat. Packed with clever automotive wordplay and adrenaline-fuelled energy, the track launches listeners straight into EVILLE’s world. Just when you think it can’t get any wilder, singer Eva proves girls can indeed scream with a hearty breakdown that closes the track.
“No Pictures Please” takes us on a time machine straight back to the 2000s. A moment when the media was intensely scrutinising women – more so than now! EVILLE turns that scrutiny into a metaphor. Instead, it reclaims power with a chorus that is pure pop-girl heaven. But don’t be fooled, as lurking in the shadows is a brutal breakdown. This is Brat Metal in its purest form: playful, defiant, and heavy as hell.
Gender will always inspire countless stories; we can all agree that equality is key, and tracks like “Bikini Top” prove why. This is a track made to be a statement, one that confronts unsolicited comments and judgement head-on. With a nu metal sound that encourages unapologetic self-expression.
But it’s the chant-along hooks, pounding bass, and driving beats that work gloriously to hype up the track. It’s clearly designed to unleash chaos in the pit. In fact, my wish for summer 2026 is to hear girls scream in unison, “I’m so hot in my bikini top. Don’t tell me what to wear because I’m never gonna stop.” Without a doubt, it’s the standout track; it’s more than empowering, it’s a story packed with phrases we’ve all heard, brought to life by the power and confidence Eva screams out.
Finally, “Accidents Happen” closes the EP with a darkly cathartic ending. Across four tracks, the EP showcases EVILLE’s song writing depth and an incredible range. But yet it does leave you wanting a little more. The best way to sum it up is to imagine Bring Me The Horizon’s Survival Horror and Charli XCX’s Brat raising a teenager, and the result is Brat Metal.
There’s a reason that EVILLE has been on so many “ones to watch” lists. This is the group we need in 2025. Tired of girls still being told what to wear, how to act, or how to feel. So go ahead, rock your Hello Kitty top with pride. Because hyper-pop girlies can be heavy metal girlies too, and EVILLE is here to make sure everyone knows it. Whether you like it or not, and well… that’s very brat.
