PRESIDENT // RAGE
Anonymous rockers break new ground
★★★★☆ (4/5)
Clandestine Coalition PRESIDENT continue their rapid releases with the new track RAGE. While the band has so far established heavier metalcore roots on “Fearless” and “In the Name of the Father”, RAGE sees an exploration into a wider sonic palette.
Immediately prominent are the electronic influences in the verses as tight drum machines beat out alongside lush synths and augmented vocals. This gives way to a heavier analogue chorus as a wall of thundering drums fills the space, pushing the distorted riffs from the guitars and bass higher in the mix.
As in previous releases, the vocals prove to be a highlight. However, the performance on RAGE stands as more restrained and melodic than previous tracks. This serves to elevate the multiple vocal styles as they are each given space to breathe in the mix.
Lyrical themes remain sombre and introspective as the band reflects on dysfunctional relationships. Broaching vulnerability with lines “I don’t want to behave like this again” and “Am I still enough for you” helps to evoke feelings of desperation and decay.
No doubt comparisons to other bands within the scene, like Bring Me The Horizon, will continue to ensnare PRESIDENT as they attempt to establish themselves and strike out a distinct identity. Hopefully, the release of more material on their debut EP “King of Thieves” which is due September 25th will provide a body of work that fully shows where the band will go.
For now, tracks like RAGE show that PRESIDENT is willing to experiment and push boundaries.
